International Cooperation

United Against a Changing Climate

In response to the significant threats posed by climate change, the RMI recognizes the need for international cooperation to develop a comprehensive and effective response. The RMI has engaged with various international organizations, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); the Coalition of Low-Lying Atoll Nations on Climate Change (CANCC); the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS); and, the Pacific Community (SPC), to collaborate on climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.

These organizations provide a range of support which can include technical expertise, financial support, and capacity building assistance to the RMI, which is crucial in the development of a robust response plan. In addition, the RMI works closely with neighboring Pacific Island countries facing similar climate change challenges, such as Fiji, Tuvalu, and Kiribati, to share knowledge and experiences, to strengthen regional cooperation, and to promote a collective voice for low-lying atoll nations internationally.

Through this international collaboration, the RMI is better positioned to address the complex issues of climate change, and to develop sustainable strategies that protect its people, environment, and culture.
