The RMI Government, KLAGOV, and PREP II Project extend their appreciation for the incredible support shown during community consultations on the Ebeye Seawall. The goodwill demonstrated has been the cornerstone of our progress.
These sessions have been vital to ensuring an open and honest exchange of concerns and ideas and have involved youth, separate women’s and men’s groups, business representatives, and local leaders. They have successfully steered us towards the final design of the upcoming seawall.
As we move forward, we’re inviting bids from potential contractors to take on the immense task of constructing the rock seawall. As part of the bid process, prospective construction partners will set foot on Ebeye in late August to familiarize themselves with the site and the challenges it will impose. During this visit, the significance of the insights gleaned from our community dialogues will be emphasized.
Community safety will be paramount throughout the construction phase, and the development of strategies that focus on minimizing risk, curbing disruption, and averting potential damage will also be discussed during this visit. Protecting children will be a top priority throughout and will, in practice, include active community involvement even before construction begins.
Looking ahead, we anticipate awarding the Construction Contract in early 2024. This exciting milestone will be followed by a busy 6-month mobilization phase positioning resources and building up capacity on Ebeye including close liaison with the community before embarking on construction work.
