Working

Immerse in Our Ways

The Marshall Islands is a Pacific country that is under a Compact of Free Association with the United States. However, if you are a citizen of the United States, you can live, work and study in the RMI without a visa. If you are a citizen of the Pacific Islands Forum, you can readily obtain a visa upon arrival. Countries that are not in the Pacific Islands Forum will need a visa before entry.

Working in the Marshall Islands can be a unique and rewarding experience. It’s a great opportunity for those interested and comfortable in experiencing a different culture and way of life.

Here are some things you might expect:

  1. A friendly and welcoming culture: Marshallese people are known for their hospitality and kindness towards visitors, and this extends to the workplace as well.
  2. A laid-back atmosphere: The pace of life in the Marshall Islands is generally slower than in many other places, which can be a welcome change for some people.
  3. Limited resources: As a small island nation, the Marshall Islands have limited resources, including limited infrastructure, technology, and educational resources. This can present challenges for those used to working in more developed settings.
  4. A focus on community: Marshallese culture places a high value on community and family, which can be reflected in the workplace. Collaboration and teamwork are often emphasized.
  5. A remote location: The Marshall Islands are located far from many major cities and can be challenging to reach. This can be a plus for those looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience, but it can also make it difficult to access certain goods and services.
