The Pacific Resilience Program Phase 2 (PREP II) comprises a series of projects aimed at enhancing the resilience of coastal infrastructure in the densely populated areas of the capital Majuro and the island of Ebeye.
Climate Change Adaptation in Action
The Ebeye Seawall Project is a coastal protection initiative aimed at reducing the impacts of sea level rise and extreme waves events caused by storm surges. Ebeye is one of the most densely populated islands in the entire Pacific Islands and it is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
The seawall project is expected to provide long-term protection to the island (up to sea level rise of 0.5m) and to serve as a model for similar initiatives in other vulnerable communities in the Pacific region. The project is being implemented with support from international partners – the World Bank, and the Global Environment Facility – to ensure that the necessary resources and expertise are available to carry out the project successfully.
